And the winner is...
Porsche Design half-eye model P 6012 wins the
"Red dot award"
Essen, March 2003: The reading glasses P 6012 by Porsche Design
has won the "Red dot award", one of the world's most highly
desired prizes, for its exceptional design. The design award is
presented annually by the Design Centre North Rhine-Westphalia in
Essen to products which are characterised by a high degree of innovation,
very high functionality and quality and by outstanding design. The
products for the "Red dot award" are selected by 26 jurors
from nine countries according to strict evaluation criteria.
The feminine half-eye model P 6012 by Porsche Design is a superb
example of the classical Porsche Design look and represents an aesthetic
synthesis of form and function: perfect lines drawn with a flowing
stroke and reduced to the function as reading glasses without any
superfluous ornamentation. The nylon thread lens holding allows
uninterrupted vision over the upper rim of the frames into the distance.
The model is made completely of pure titanium and also represents
the epitome of innovation and exceptional engineering in another
aspect: the patented, vertically arranged hinge solution - unique
in ophthalmic optics - which also allows a flatter, more space saving
closing of the frame.
The products which won the "Red dot award" can be admired
in the special exhibition "Design innovations 2003" at
the Essen Red dot design museum from 1 to 28 July 2003.
